I always weigh my lye with an accurate scale. Especially when doing small batches. I use fluid measurements for water and oil since these are larger amounts and being super exact is not as important with them. You do want to be very exact with the lye amount. I use a postal scale and have had good results. Mainly you just don't want to use too much lye.
